Ubaldino Peruzzi (1822-1891) fu, assieme a Bettino Ricasoli, il più autorevole tra i moderati toscani che, specialmente negli anni immediatamente successivi all’Unità d’Italia, ebbero un ruolo preminente nella vita politica nazionale. Fu l'ultimo rappresentante, morendo senza eredi, del ramo della famiglia Peruzzi. Fu Sindaco di Firenze e uno dei primi Ministri del Regno d’Italia. Il Monumento a Ubaldino Peruzzi si erge nella splendida piazza della Indipendenza.
Ubaldino Peruzzi (1822-1891) was, together with Bettino Ricasoli, the most eminent among the Tuscan moderates that, especially in the years immediately following the Unification of Italy, played a prominent role in the national political life. He was the last representative, dying without heirs, of the Peruzzi family branch. He was Mayor of Florence and one of the first Ministers of the Kingdom of
Italy. The Monument to Ubaldino Peruzzi stands in the wonderful Piazza Indipendenza.

Notizie storico-artistiche: nel 1898 il giardino fu arricchito da due monumenti con statue in bronzo e alto basamento in granitouna raffigurante Ubaldino Peruzzi, primo sindaco di Firenze e più volte ministro del Regno, l'altra Bettino Ricasoli, per due volte presidente del Consiglio e, assieme al precedente, tra i più autorevoli esponenti tra i moderati toscani. La scultura raffigura Ubaldino Peruzzi nel momento in cui, il 27 aprile del 1859, aveva parlato al popolo radunato in quella che allora era la piazza Maria Antonia per annunciare - come già abbiamo accennato - la partenza dalla città dell'ultimo granduca lorenese, Leopoldo II. Nel basamento sono quattro rilievi in bronzo raffiguranti ulteriori episodi della vita del nostro. La scultura fu restaurata una prima volta nel 1930 e ancora nel 1950. La cancellata è stata oggetto di lavori nel 1924 e nel 1949.
Historical and artistic information: iIn 1898 the garden was enriched by two monuments with bronze statues and high granite base, one depicting Ubaldino Peruzzi, first mayor of Florence and Minister of the Kingdom again and again, the other representing Bettino Ricasoli, twice President of the Council and, together with the previous , one of the most distinguished figures among the Tuscan moderates. The sculpture depicts Ubaldino Peruzzi when, on April 27th 1859, had spoken to the people gathered in what was then the Maria Antonia square to announce the departure from the city of the last Grand Duke of Lorraine, Leopold II . In the base there are four bronze reliefs featuring scenes from Peruzzi’s life. The sculpture was restored for the first time in 1930 and again in 1950. The iron gating was restored in 1924 and 1949.
